My Weekend...

... Was actually not very fascinating.  I stayed home all weekend and did homework and fun stuff like reading books.

Winter

I like the cold a lot, but if I need to, I will wear a warm winter coat, boots and gloves.  Why gloves and not mittens, you may wonder.  Well, I personally dislike mittens.  As for keeping my head warm, my hair does that well enough.  I am slightly looking forward to the opening day at Silver Star and Big White tomorrow, because I like to ski, but slightly not because my life is already hectic enough without skiing.

Seasons

I like all seasons quite a bit, and all of them have things I like about them and things I dislike.  Summer brings a vacation from school, but is often just too warm.  Winter has so many holidays, but I'm always stuck with static electricity every winter.  Fall is so fun at first, with bright coloured leaves, but after a while it becomes somewhat dreary.  However, spring stands out above the rest.  It is a time of bright colours and welcome warmth after the cold gray of winter, and a time of new growth.  Spring is the season of my birthday and spring break.  Spring is by far my favourite season.

Halloween

Many people dress up as skeletons on halloween.  I am too - prehistoric version.  Prepare to see a velociraptor fossil wandering about in search of prey (or maybe just candy) this halloween.  Also, be sure to stay away from any small girls dressed as palm trees, as the only one I know of is my (slightly hyper) sister.  Before halloween, however, my school has several halloween-themed activities in the foyer at lunch, most of which I plan to participate in.  In fact, I have already participated in one, the object of which being to eat a whole pie (pumpkin pie, to be specific).  The catch?  No hands allowed.  I also plan to go to the school's halloween dance, though I might not dance much.  I'd prefer the haunted house that's going to be there..  Happy halloween!

Scanned Pictures

My first scan - a collage of dinosaurs pasted on top of a picture of a hurricane.

This is a scanned picture of a collection of leaves I acquired on October 15th shortly before I scanned them.  My favourite leaf is near the bottom of the page, small, coloured in orange, a little yellow, green and a little white.  Can you find it?

This is a picture of my hands, part of my arms, my watch and some of my hair.

This is an edited version of the above picture.  It is done in black and white, but my hands have been made to look lighter in colour.

This is similar to the above picture, but in normal black and white.

This was certainly the hardest scan to do, as the computer mouse in the picture was connected to the same computer as the scanner I was scanning it with.  It is also  one of my favourites.

This is the same picture as before, edited into black and white.

This is the same as the above picture, only edited to again make my hand look lighter.

This was edited from the same original  scan as the above two pictures.  In it, I edited the colours to more prominently show the cyan.

This is one of my favourites.  It was done with the scanner lid open, so my hands are contrasted by the black background.  The watch also shows the precise time it was scanned.

This is yet another edited version of a scan I did, again recoloured to make my hands look lighter.

This is yet another scan done in gray.

Crazy Face

This was done with Photoshop.  I could never look like this without it.

My Logo

Save the krill!

Indecisive?

I've found it hard to decide on some things, such as what to make this post about.  Yet I can decide on other things in a matter of seconds.  In your opinion, does that make me indecisive, or not?  I thought I was, but now I'm not sure...

Save the Krill!

My idea for a website/logo assignment is 'Save the Krill!'  I chose this topic because I feel that krill do not get the respect and recognition they deserve.  They have an important role in the ecosystem - they swin back and forth between the ocean floor and the surface, which stirs up nutrients for other organisms.  Yet all people think of when they hear about krill is tiny shrimp things that whales eat.  Krill deserve our respect!

Logos

You probably know this: the YouTube logo.  It uses a red box around part of the word to emphasize it.  The boz itself is lighter at one corner, making it seem almost 3D.  By contrast, the black letters are flat and the white letters look more like they have been cut out of the red box than stuck on top.  There is also a small shadow under the box and the black letters.

This is the Mozilla Firefox logo.  It uses plain shapes without outlined and shading to make an interesting logo.  The top of the earth is lighter, which gives you the impression that it is round.  The fox's for fades from dark to light at the tips.  The fox's back is shaded, which makes it seem like light is shining down on it.  The shadows on the edge make it seem raised off the background.

This logo uses a combination of flat letters and highlighted shapes.  The highlights  make the shapes seem to stick out.  The big turquoise section especially reminds me of a water drop.

This logo's black background  condtasts sharply with the red, orange and blue.  The logo includes a picture of Mars behind the blue, red and orange swirl.  The title of the logo is done in the same colours as the swirl.  The swirl combines blue and red and highlights both in places, adding lighter sections that seem raised out from the rest.
This logo uses the colours of the five olympic rings at the bottom to form the inukshuk design.  The title is placed in the middle, emphasizing it.

This logo uses the same picture of the earth as the Firefox logo, because both are done by the same company.  In this logo, the fennec fox's head is placed in front of the earth.  It is also done without outlines, making it seem smoother.  The top of the logo is lighter, as if the light on it is coming from above the logo.

This logo uses shading to make the letter seem rounded and sticking out a bit.  The yellow loop is slightly transparent and does not go all the way around the letter.  Some edges of the letter are darker, making it appear to be 3D.

This logo uses shading and angles to make the globe seem round.  The globe is also split into puzzle pieces and the top few pieces are missing.  Part of the other side of the globe can be seen through the top, adding to the idea that it is a sphere, not just a circle.  The logo is completely colourless.
So far, I have been doing fairly well in Info Tech.  I am especially proud of my nameplate, my photographs and my copyright project.  I believe everything I have done has been done well enough, though not always as I had planned at first.

Favourite Pictures Taken by Classmates

I like this picture because it shows natural and manmade things together.  It is a very good example of something growing in an environment it should not be able to.  The plant has grown onto a barbed wire fence instead of in a more natural environment.

Why do I like this?  Because it's an excellent picture of a flower.  The flower is in clear focus against the background, and of a bright enough colour to really stand out.

This is a very good picture of the texture of tree bark.  It shows the bark, as well as the distinct colours and patterns of the lichens growing on the tree.  It makes it easy to see that there are at least two varieties of lichens: grayish-white and orange.

A Name Plate

This is my nameplate.  It was made with Macromedia Fireworks.  The font is 'Matura MT Script Capitals'.  It is coloured with light blue, light purple and various shades of grays.  The background uses the 'Marble' filter around the edge and the 'Bevel Boss' and 'Inner Glow' filters in the middle.  The pattern in the middle is the 'Waves' gradient in gray, light blue and light purple.  The font is done in style 5, which uses 'Inner Shadow', 'Curves', 'Inner Glow' and 'Drop Shadow'.

Some Pictures

This  is a picture of texture and reflection.  It shows the texture of the side of a motorcycle, as well as several reflections of me and the camera.
This is, in fact, a picture of the texture of tree bark.  It is, in my opinion, an excellent example of texture, as it is in focus and clearly shows the texture of the side of the tree.
This is a picture of both mainly one colour (red) and of something growing where it shouldn't be able to.  If you look closely, you can see the fence the plant has grown on.
This is a close-up picture of a moth I found outside the school.  In the picture, it is resting on my hand.
This is a picture of reflection.  It shows me and the camera reflected in a car mirror.
This is a picture of mainly one colour.  It is actually the back of Ashton's orange shirt.
This is a picture of mainly one colour.  It shows the back of my shirt.  "My Turn To Ride The Donkey" is a song my dad wrote. (He's a musician.)
This is a picture from a different angle.  Often, when we look at birds, we are looking at them from far away, or from below if they are in a tree or flying overhead.  Ashton was able to get close enough to get this picture of three birds from an angle very different from the angle we often see birds at.
This is a picture of something growing where it shouldn't be able to.  It shows a weed growing out of a crack in the sidewalk, which is a very strange place to find a plant.
This is a close-up picture of an interesting mushroom.  I'm not sure if it's poisonous or not, so don't be tempted to eat one if you get hungry.

'How to Train Your Dragon' Trailer HD

This is a preview for the fantasy movie "How to Train Your Dragon" which was released in theatres on March 26, 2010, which is exactly 1 day after my birthday.  I consider this to be an excellent movie, and not just because I love dragons.

What I did this weekend

This weekend at my house, nothing very exciting happened, due to the fact that we all caught a cold, which makes a weekend kind of dreary and boring.

Three Dragon Pictures

I chose this picture because dragons are just so amazing and I love them.
I like this picture because, as I said before, I love dragons, especially black ones.
I chose this picture because the dragon is just amazing.  I hope one day my art can be this good.

My Weekend

This weekend, I babysat my sister Friday and Sunday night.  On Saturday, I stayed home while my mom and my sister went to hang out with friends.  Saturday afternoon, I went to Artwalk with my mom and sister.  I got to paint my own picture and carve a small piece of soapstone.  We also got mini donuts.  All in all, it was an enjoyable weekend.
